SEBRING PARKWAY CHURCH OF CHRIST

February 6th, 2005 3800 Sebring Parkway   -   Sebring, FL 33870   -   Phone: (863) 385-7443

THANKS!

Bear with me for a moment as I take the time to do something that we all could use a little more of.  I want to thank each and every one of you for the love and concern that has been expressed and shown to us over the past few months.  It has been nearly a year now that we began dealing with this latest episode of Teresa’s illness.  The burden has been much easier to bear with the help and love you all have shown to us.

Thank You!

While at times, it can be tempting to wonder if “luck is against us” with all of the difficult situations that have arisen over the past year, being here has made it all worthwhile.  There are many of you who have endured just as difficult of times with health or other physical problems, but still you come to worship with a smile on your face and concern for those about you.

Thank You!

For those who are involved with so many of the outreach programs here. For those who teach classes. For those who make sure the Teachers have necessary supplies.  For those who check up on your fellow brothers and sisters to make sure they are all right.  For those who reach out to others to share God’s love and message.  For those who help others in the community when they are in need.  For those who helped with projects around the buildings.  For those who give of their time, talents, money, or whatever they find in their hand or possession.  For those who help with the bulletin, communion preparation, flowers, decorating, etc., etc., etc.!

Thank You!

To the Elders, who often work late hours, pray for the church and each individual, tackle tough decisions, and often go unthanked, all the while, still working fulltime jobs.

Thank You!

To the Deacons, who have work on top of work.

Thank You!

To anyone I have not specifically mentioned the work that you do, remember this:  God sees and He is the one passing out the ultimate reward.  But also remember, my mind often fails to remember to say what my heart feels and my eyes see.  Just know that to you and to all…

THANK YOU!!!

Bryan

Things Aren't Always What They Seem...

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, “Things aren't always what they seem.”

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable, farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel, “How could you have let this happen!? The first man had everything, yet you helped him,” the angel accused. “The second family had little, but was willing to share everything, and you let their cow die.” “Things aren't always what they seem,” the older angel replied.

“When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.  Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife.  I gave the cow instead. “Things aren't always what they seem.”

Sometimes, this is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You might not know it until some time later.

Think about this:  Should you find it hard to get to sleep tonight --

  • Just remember the homeless family who has no bed to lie in.
  • Should you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair.  There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
  • Should you have a bad day at work, think of the man who has been out of work for the last several months.
  • Should you despair over a relationship gone bad, think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.
  • Should you grieve the passing of another weekend, think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week, for $15.00 to feed her family.
  • Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance -- think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.
  • Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror, think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.
  • Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking "What is my purpose;" -- be thankful, there are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.
  • Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities -- remember, things could be worse...You could be them!!!

What’s Happening This Week!!

Tonight at 6:00 pm, the Timothy Class will be speaking.  These young men meet at least two times a month to be ready for their monthly lesson.  These young men work hard to present lessons, prayers, songs and Scripture reading for you.  Can you please work hard at attending to encourage and uplift them.

Tuesday, Ladies Class at 10:00 am, Sue Morris will be presenting our fifth lesson, A Servant in Shepherd’s Clothing.  This will also be our February birthday celebration.  The ladies are planning on going to the Rose Tea Room.  Please plan on attending class and joining in the celebration.

Wednesday at 7:00 pm, Mid-week services.  Did you resolve this year to be a Wednesday Niter.  We need you here on Wednesday nights.  Please come and be an encouragement to someone else.

Thursday 9:00 – 11:00 am, Clothing Give-away.  Have you checked your closets, drawers, and hide aways for any unwanted items.  We also have a need for clothing of all kinds and sizes, shoes, sheets, towels, pots, pans, dishes, toys and even knick-knacks.  Please make sure these items are clean and in good condition before you donate them.  Just leave them in the fellowship building and we will take care of the rest.

Friday at 5:30 pm, the CEO will be eating at Ming Tong.  What a great opportunity to fellowship together and encourage one another.  If you have not attended one of these Friday Night outings, I encourage you to attend one and see what it is all about.  I bet you will have a wonderful time with a great group of people.

Say Thank You

A thank you to Wayne Welsh for all his hard work around the building.  He has been busy cleaning and cutting the flower/shrubbery beds around the building.

A thank you to Roger Gurganus and his crew for mulching the flower beds and cleaning up around the shed.

A thank you to B.J. Thomas, Doc Horton, and  Leon Tubbs for all their work on the sprinkler system.  They also ran a water line to the new building.

A thank to George Lazzell and Bob Nall for all their hard work at keeping the grass mowed on the side lots.

Without these men and all their hard work the grounds would not look as nice as it does.

HEAR

But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
      (Luke 11: 28).

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they
believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a
      preacher? (Romans 10: 14).

BELIEVE

"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be
      condemned (Mark 16: 16).

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written
in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son
of God, and that believing you may have life in His name (John 20: 30).

REPENT

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”
     (Acts 2: 38).

"…but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region
of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works
      befitting repentance (Acts 26: 20).

CONFESS

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father
who is in heaven" (Matthew 10: 32).

But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the
word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved"
     (Romans 10: 8 - 9).

BE BAPTIZED

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven
and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
     age." Amen (Matthew 28: 18 - 20).

"And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling
on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22: 16).
