SEBRING PARKWAY CHURCH OF CHRIST

November 21st, 2004 3800 Sebring Parkway   -   Sebring, FL 33870   -   Phone: (863) 385-7443

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's command.

By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

Hebrews 11: 23 - 28

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...

Ask yourself the question of "would you run" after you read this!!!

Would you run?  Imagine this happening to you.  One Sunday morning during service, a 2,000 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carrying submachine guns.  One of the men proclaimed,  “Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are.”  Immediately, the elders fled...the deacons fled...and most of the congregation fled.... out of the 2,000 there only remained around 20.  The man who had spoken took off his hood.  He then looked at the preacher and said “Okay Preacher, I got rid of all the hypocrites... Now you may begin your service.”  And the two men turned and sat down.

  • Funny how simple it is for people to trash God...and then wonder why the world is in the condition it is today....

  • Funny how we believe what the newspapers say...but question what the Bible says...

  • Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven...provided they do not have to believe, think, say, or do anything the Bible says…or is it scary?

  • Funny how someone can say, "I believe in God"...but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also "believes” in God).

  • Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire...but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, you think twice about sharing.

  • Funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace...but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and work place.

Funny, isn't it?

  • Funny how someone can be so fired up for Christ on Sunday...but be an invisible Christian the rest of the week.  Are you laughing?

  • Funny how when you go to share this message...you will not share it to many of your friends because you're not sure what they believe...or what they will think of you for sharing it with them.

  • Funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me...than what God thinks of me.

Are you thinking?  Will you share this with people you care about?  Or not?

This year’s hurricane season left its mark on our communities.  We know many in your hometown need your support right now.  Your neighbors see Christ every time you help them rebuild, supply food from your pantries or simply sit and cry with them.  That’s why taking care of their needs should be your first priority.  The Mount Dora Children’s Home is canceling their fall food drive in honor of that effort.

Christian Home and Bible School invites you to the Southeastern Gospel Sing, Friday, November 19th from 7:30 – Midnight.  They will also have their chicken dinner the same day at 4:00 p.m.

AARP Tax Aide provides FREE tax preparation to any moderate or low income tax payer.  They are currently seeking volunteers for the 2004 tax season.  They are recruiting tax preparers, e-file tax prepares, and greeters.  All volunteers are trained at no cost to prepare tax returns according to IRS standards.  Greeters will greet clients and assist them with arranging their tax documents.  In order to serve all Highlands County residents, they are seeking bilingual volunteers.  Questions?  More information?  You may call Pat Triggs, area coordinator at 699-2758 or email her at pater246@htn.net.

How Do You Do It?

(Have YOU Been There?)

As the bus pulled away, I realized I had left my purse under the seat.  Later I called the company and was relieved that the driver had found my bag.  When I went to pick it up, several off-duty bus drivers surrounded me.  One man handed me my purse, two typewritten pages and a box containing all of its contents.  “We’re required to inventory lost wallets and purses,” he explained.  “I think you will find everything there.”  As I started to put my belongings back into my pocketbook, the man continued, “I hope you don’t mind if we watch.  Even though we all tried, none of us could fit everything into your purse; and we’d like to see just how you do it.

HEAR

But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" (Luke 11: 28).

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10: 14).

BELIEVE

"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned (Mark 16: 16).

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name (John 20: 30).

REPENT

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”
(Acts 2: 38).

"…but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance (Acts 26: 20).

CONFESS

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10: 32).

But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10: 8 - 9).

BE BAPTIZED

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen (Matthew 28: 18 - 20).

"And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22: 16).
